    Guest Speaker:

    Hon Dr Meredith Burgmann

“Our Debt to Timor-Leste and How We Can Repay It”

Should Australia be held to account for some of the problems faced by Timor-Leste?

Our guest speaker will discuss why and what debt we owe –
and how we can be more effective in our support for Timor-Leste.

Meredith was an activist against the Vietnam War and Apartheid and was involved in the beginnings of the Women’s Movement and the early Environment Movement. Entering the NSW Parliament in 1991, Meredith became President of the NSW Legislative Council in 1999, a position she held until retirement in 2007.
Dr Burgmann has had a long interest in aid and development issues, visiting refugee camps and aid projects especially in Rwanda, Western Sahara, Palestine, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. She is currently the Women’s Ambassador for AUSTCARE.
