Big Button on The Variety Bash

[ Home ]       [ Make Donation Only ]

You may have seen a car kicking around Adelaide with a 2m high cactus on the boot. This is Big Button's entry in the Variety Bash. Big Button staff and friends have been participating in The Bash since 1996. This vehicle has traveled to all states of Australia, including Tasmania, with the cactus still intact after countless kilometres of dirt. This year alone, it traveled both the Birdsville and Strezleki tracks.

If you can't pick it (and most can't) it is a 1963 Chev Belair. Originally designed to cruise the streets of Los Angeles it is surprisingly capable of taking the punishment delivered by outback Australia. While you may expect this to be an American import this particular example was built in Elizabeth, South Australia at the GMH plant.

The Variety Bash is a very important event for Australia's Special Children. In 2004 the South Australian Bash raised over $1.2 million. Each State of Australia has its own Variety Bash. Big Button has participated in events in South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.
