Mission.gif (1764 bytes)

The role and contribution of volunteering (unpaid staff) is essential in encouraging a democratic, caring, informed, dynamic and co-operative society, to provide the services facilities and programs residents need. In this regard, all staff need to work in an environment of their choice, which allows them to give of their best while enjoying the experience.

Aims.gif (1267 bytes)

ForComm.gif (3324 bytes)

  • To provide a largely unseen but vital reservoir of energy, commitment and experience, assisting in all sorts, ways and places.
  • To provide a means of meeting individual and community needs in a manner appropriate to the particular situation, and in some cases, needs which would not otherwise be addressed.
  • To improve the quality of community life as more people with ideas, skills and commitment are able to make their contributions.

ForVols.gif (2582 bytes)

  • Each volunteer will be appropriately matched to a job which takes advantage of his/her interests and skills, which may be developed, either for personal fulfilment, or with future paid employment in mind.
  • A climate of mutual trust, recognition and support for and between staff will be fostered, with the views and opinions of each person valued and access provided to the decision making process.
  • All relevant legislation eg. health and safety and equal opportunity, will be observed by all. Personal accident and public risk insurance and out of pocket expenses will be provided.
  • Together with the opportunity to return something to the community, is the opportunity to develop a sense of belonging, personal development and broadening of life experiences.

ForGcc.gif (4995 bytes)

  • To provide the opportunity to initiate new programs and services and to enhance and extend current ones.
  • To 'pilot test' the usefulness and viability of proposed new services and activities.
  • To utilise the energy, creativity and new perspective’s of the volunteers who move freely between residents and the Centre keeping their pulse on community attitudes and needs.
  • To increase bonding between the Centre and the surrounding community.

Future.gif (2058 bytes)
Volunteers can be involved in one or more areas of work and opportunity for change may be available. It is recognised that changes in circumstances can mean that a volunteers time commitments may need to change. We hope that volunteers will not hesitate in approaching their co-ordinator if any difficulties arise as solutions could be a change in hours, area or involvement or a complete break from volunteering.

Training.gif (1809 bytes)

On the job training is available for every volunteer position. It may be through a staff supervisor or an experienced volunteer within the area.

Additional training will be conducted as necessary and may include such issues as Safe Lifting and Hazard Identification (Occupational Health & Safety).
